Jane Harstad, D.Ed.
Born and raised in the Twin Cities, Jane Harstad, D.Ed., is a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Having worked as an elementary educator in St. Paul, she continued her education to include a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership in the American Indian Leadership Program at Penn State. After returning to Minnesota, she has continued her career as a Principal and in the research field among the nonprofit sector. She has 4 children and currently resides in St. Paul.
Haley is a Program Manager for the Indigenous Youth Research and Development Center initiative, where she is working closely with a leadership team to craft a community- and youth-centered planning process for transforming the way information about Native youth is gathered, shared, and used. She previously served on the board of directors for Native Youth Alliance of Minnesota and was the director of Education for the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Haley is also active in the Indian Education community, serving on the Board of Directors for Oshki Ogimaag Community School (chair) and the Minnesota Indian Education Association. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education. Haley’s family is from the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and Cleveland, OH.
